A Venue That
Reflects You

Conservation
Historic, with a modern sustainability focus

values

Reverberating with northern Michigan’s proud heritage of cherry production, a distinct feature of our venue is the blending of beautiful aesthetics with strong environmental values.

By holding your event at the Basket, you support investments in the property that enhance its beauty, make it more climate-resilient, and provide habitat for wildlife.

land conservation

Cherry Basket Farm features diverse natural landscapes: pollinator meadows, native forests and natural wetlands. Each is managed to be a model of stewardship in the hope that it might inspire other landowners to keep a portion of their properties wild. We invite couples who get married here to join in this effort. Each couple has the opportunity to plant their own "wedding tree" on the day of their rehearsal or ceremony.

We manage our open fields and orchard with sustainable agriculture and soil health principles in mind. Our aim is to become an important source of inspiration, learning experiences and local products for residents and visitors to the Leelanau Peninsula and Traverse City region.

Our interest in demonstrating what private landowners can do to sequester carbon, provide abundant wildlife habitat, and grow healthy food is informed and inspired by the work of local land trusts and land conservancies across the United States, including in Michigan. These organizations partner with private landowners to permanently conserve and steward natural areas and working lands.  This essential work is voluntary, local, community-driven, nonpartisan, charitable and enduring – values that align perfectly with our vision for Cherry Basket Farm.

Our Story

Portrait of the owners of Cherry Basket Farm

We hope you are inspired to create your own unforgettable event at "The Basket."  That's what happened to us. We always wanted to "get married on land that we loved" but didn’t think it would happen until, in a twist of fate, we found the farm and exchanged our own vows here in October 2020.

We share a deep passion for protecting natural areas, wildlife habitats and working lands for future generations.

We are a supportive space for all unions and all traditions. For weddings and private events, we encourage partnerships with Leelanau’s talented creative community, which is filled with professionals able to craft and deliver memorable celebrations in one of the peninsula’s most remarkable settings.
